Area residents of Kamunono village, Kisasi sub-location in Vihiga County, raised an uproar on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, after a middle-aged man whose death is still a mystery was buried on Monday, May 11, 2026 at night by his family as the residents demanded to know the cause of his death.
Speaking to the press, the chief of the Shamakhokho location, Hesbon Liyenzero said that he had a while back received information that the deceased had passed on while at home in Kisasi.
He said that on reaching the homestead with other local authorities, he found that it was indeed true that the deceased had passed on upon which, on making local inquiries, there were speculations by the residents that the man may have passed on from injuries sustained during a beating.
“I took the initiative to inform the concerned authorities, who contacted the officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that came to the homestead and carried the body to Jumuia, Friends Hospital Kaimosi in Vihiga County, upon request by the family,” said Liyenzero.
Liyenzero added that he received a call on Monday, May 11, 2026, that the family had taken the deceased’s body from Jumuia hospital mortuary, Kaimosi and buried him at night.
“Upon reaching here in the morning, I found that the secretive burial had raised alarm across the village, with residents having taken it upon themselves to force those who had buried the deceased to exhume the body demanding for a postmortem to determine the cause of death,” Liyenzero explained.
Liyenzero further said that the community also attacked the individuals who had conducted the burial, with the incident leading to a major standoff between the residents and the police who were trying to restore order.
“The body has since been moved and is currently being preserved at the Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary as further investigations are carried out, “concluded chief Liyenzero.
