Two people were killed and three houses torched following violent inter-clan clashes in Wang’aya One Sub-location in Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu County.
Preliminary reports indicate that the violence was triggered by the killing of a man from Kabar East Sub-location in Masogo Location over the weekend by suspected criminals.
Confirming the incident, Muhoroni Sub-County Police Commander Frederick Ombaka said a group of boda boda operators and angry residents from Masogo area launched a retaliatory attack on Masaka Ogillo village in Wang’aya One Sub-location on Wednesday at around noon.
According to Ombaka, the group, estimated to comprise about 100 people, stormed the village in search of individuals believed to have been involved in the earlier killing.
During the attack, three mud-walled houses were set on fire and household property destroyed.
The incident sparked resistance from local villagers, who fought back in an attempt to disperse the attackers, leading to a violent confrontation between the two groups.
Ombaka said a 46-year-old man believed to have been among the attackers was cornered by villagers and lynched during the chaos.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to Othoo Funeral Home awaiting postmortem examinations.
The sub county police commander said investigations into the incident are ongoing, with officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations leading the probe.
