Nyamira Governor, Amos Nyaribo, has challenged students who graduated from the County Youth Digital Empowerment Programme to use digital skills learnt in seizing online job opportunities globally.
Speaking while presiding over the graduation of 60 cohort 3 and 4 trainees on Wednesday, Governor Nyaribo said his administration will register those who have undergone the training in an academy to nurture and track their progress.
“This program equips young people with digital practical skills in transcription, digital foundations, virtual assistance, content writing, and prompt engineering tailored to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving digital economy. It has helped in breaking barriers to youth employment by opening access to global job opportunities.” Governor Nyaribo said.
He encouraged the graduates to embrace technology responsibly, noting that Artificial Intelligence (AI) was reshaping workplaces and creating new possibilities for innovation and economic growth to create meaningful impact individuals make in their communities.
“My government has plans to expand this programme by establishing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres in the remaining 4 sub-counties and integrating digital training into my manifesto on youth empowerment. We have plans to partner with technology firms and international organizations to scale up digital education opportunities.” The County boss promised.
Nyaribo called on young people across the county to take advantage of the available training opportunities, describing digital skills as a key pathway to employment, innovation, and economic empowerment.
One of the graduates, Vivian Nyanchoka was very grateful to be enrolled in the digital empowerment program confirming the skills learnt were very relevant for her to seek job opportunities and she can comfortably and confidently work from home.
The county will enrol cohort five of the digital programme immediately so that as many youths as possible are equipped with digital skills which have become a relevant tool in the 21st century.
Present in the graduation ceremony were the County Secretary Dr. Jack Magara, County Executive Committee Members (CECM) Stephen Oboso (Finance), Emily Ongaga (Education and Vocational training), Alice Manoti (water and environment), Dr Peris Mong’are (Agriculture), including parents of the graduands and other county staff.
