Gor Mahia Football Club fraternity on Thursday presented the just-won 2025/2026 Kenya Premier League trophy to Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, John Mbadi
The presentation ceremony, held at the National Treasury, brought together the club’s management, players, and the technical bench to celebrate the achievement and discuss the club’s future ambitions, including its participation in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions.
Receiving the Trophy, Mbadi congratulated Gor Mahia for winning the Kenya Premier League title for the 22nd time and described the achievement as a source of pride for the country.
“Gor Mahia has made the country proud once again. I will engage relevant government agencies and the President to explore how we can support the Club, particularly in addressing the training ground challenge,” said Mbadi.
The Cabinet Secretary pledged to support the club’s efforts to secure improved training facilities and said he would engage President William Ruto on possible government intervention.
In recognition of the team’s achievement, Mbadi announced a personal contribution of Sh1 million to the club’s management, Sh2 million to the players and an additional Sh200,000 to support team activities.
He urged the players to maintain their winning mentality and strive for success in the forthcoming CAF competitions.
Gor Mahia Chairman, Ambrose Rachier, congratulated the players and technical team for their successful campaign and highlighted challenges facing the club despite its continued dominance in Kenyan football.
Rachier said the club urgently requires support in securing a training ground closer to Nairobi, noting that the current facilities are located far away and pose logistical challenges for the team.
“Our biggest challenge is access to a suitable training facility. The grounds available to us are far from Nairobi, making training logistics difficult for the team. We appeal for support in securing a facility closer to the City to enhance our preparations,” said Rachier.
He also cited difficulties in player recruitment and resource mobilization, saying the Club requires additional support to remain competitive locally and in continental competitions.
Rachier thanked the Cabinet Secretary for receiving the team and for his support towards sports development.
Head Coach Charles Akonnor thanked the players, club management, and the cabinet secretary for their support and encouragement.
Akonnor noted that Gor Mahia had qualified for CAF competition and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to represent Kenya well on the continental stage.
The ceremony was held as part of celebrations to mark Gor Mahia’s latest league triumph, further cementing the club’s status as the most successful football club in Kenya.
