Governor Barasa hosts ASK team ahead of Agricultural Show

Kakamega Governor, Fernandes Barasa, has underscored the central role of agriculture in driving economic growth and improving livelihoods of Kenyans.

Governor Barasa, who is also the patron of the Western Region ASK Show, said the 2026 Western Region Agricultural Show event remains a key platform for linking farmers to modern technologies, markets, and innovations that can transform agricultural production across the region.

The Governor made the remarks as he hosted a delegation from the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK), ahead of the 2026 Western Region Agricultural Show.

The meeting, held yesterday at his farm in Harambee, Matungu Sub-county, brought together ASK officials and the county leadership to finalize preparations for the annual exhibitions, scheduled for June 10–13, 2026, at the ASK Moi Showground in Kakamega.

He noted that his administration continues to prioritise agriculture through programmes aimed at boosting productivity, strengthening food security and promoting value addition for farmers, describing the sector as the backbone of Kakamega’s economy.

“The ASK Show is not just an exhibition, but a practical learning space where farmers, researchers, agribusiness players and development partners exchange ideas that directly improve livelihoods,” said the governor.

He called on farmers, exhibitors, business communities and members of the public from across Western Kenya to attend the four-day event, saying it offered a rare opportunity for knowledge sharing and networking within the agricultural sector.

The ASK delegation expressed appreciation for the county’s continued support, noting that collaboration with devolved governments has strengthened the impact of agricultural shows in promoting innovation and best practices among farmers.

They said this year’s edition is expected to attract a wide range of participants, including farmers, researchers, agribusiness stakeholders and development partners, who will showcase innovations aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security.

Governor Barasa extended a warm invitation to the public for the agricultural enlightenment event.
