Nyandarua Women Rep calls for closure of bars on the eve of Olkalou by-election

Nyandarua Woman Rep has called for the closure of all bars in Ol Kalou constituency on the eve of the July 16 by-election voting day.

Ms. Faith Gitau said closure of bars will allow maximum turnout by the youthful voters to cast their ballot.

Ms Gitau, in company of Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru, MP Kirinyaga central, Gachoki Gitari and Kirinyaga county Assembly Speaker Muteti Murimi said the Olkalou by-election, after death of area MP David Kiaraho in late March this year, should not be associated with next year’s General Election.

The two and other political leaders among host of MCAs from both Nyandarua and Kirinyaga were addressing women at Kieni in Kaibaga ward within Ol’ Kalou constituency on Tuesday

The leaders were drumming up support for the UDA candidate Samuel Muchina, where they called for delinking the by-election from next year’s elections. This was in response to their opponents in DCP who have been telling Ol Kalou electorate that the July voting is a rehearsal of next year’s polls.

As a way of drumming support for Ms Gitau in her quest for the Nyandarua governor’s seat next year, Waiguru extended invitation to Nyandarua women to visit her County to see the success of women’s leadership, saying Kirinyaga has many success stories under her leadership.

“I’m informed that Nyandarua is trying to come up with level four hospital when we in Kirinyaga have level four hospitals in every ward,” noted Waiguru.

The leaders were optimistic that UDA party would clinch the Ol Kalou constituency by-elections set for July 16.

Waiguru and Gitau said the by-election will be a litmus test for the work the government had done for the people of the Mt Kenya region.

The duo rallied the people of Ol Kalou to support UDA candidate saying that he was better placed to fit in the shoes of the late Kiaraho.

“We want a development-conscious person and we believe that Muchina will fit in the late MPs’ shoes. He has worked with him for a long time and that is why the electorate chose him,” added Ms Gitau.

“He is conversant with the MP ‘s office and that is why we believe in him. We cannot get development while outside the government,” said Ms Gitau.

On his part, Muchina said once elected he will push to completion the agendas of the late Kiaraho, whom he served as personal assistant for many years up to his death with priorities being the construction of Nyandarua University and improvement of education and health sectors.
