Parents have been urged to remain vigilant and closely monitor their children, amid growing concerns over the increasing number of missing children reported across the country.
Former Kenya Seed Company Chairperson Wangui Ngirici expressed concern over the alarming trend, noting that reports of missing children have become a frequent occurrence in the media.
Speaking in Kaitheri Location, Kirinyaga Central sub county, Ngirici said parents and guardians must take greater responsibility in ensuring the safety of their children, especially when they commute to and from school.
Additionally, she called on parents to put in place proper childcare arrangements and ensure that children are under the supervision of trusted adults at all times.
“We ask parents to take good care of their children as they go to school and make sure there was always someone who takes care of them because we do not know where they are being taken,” she added.
Ngirichi noted that while the reasons behind the disappearances remain unclear, the safety of children should be a collective responsibility involving parents, communities and relevant authorities.
In Kirinyaga County, she singled out Mwea and Ndia constituencies with several cases being reported, adding that the trend has caused fears, anxiety and outrage among families
“I want to tell you that I have heard that children are missing. Every day on TV, children are reported missing,” she said.
Wangui, who previously served as Kirinyaga County women representative, noted the country may in future uncover the circumstances surrounding the disappearances, but emphasized that immediate preventive measures are necessary to protect our children from any potential danger.
Her remarks come amid growing public concern over reported cases of missing children in different parts of the country, with calls for enhanced investigations and stronger child protection measures
