The Principal Secretary (PS) state department for basic education John Ololtuaa has called on students to exercise discipline and protect their learning institutions as a measure to ensure they excel in their academics.
Speaking during a thanks giving in regard to 2025 national examination results as well as prayers for the 2026 class event at St. Elizabeth Girls Senior School at Chepkunyuk ward in Nandi East Sub County Ololtuaa observed that learning institutions are like a sacred place that should be protected and taken care of to be able to benefit the future generations.
“It is very important to treat learning institutions as sacred places that should be respected and protected. I want to call on all students in our country to focus their attention on the importance of schools and the need to protect them as sacred places,” pointed the PS.
He challenged students to concentrate on their studies, work hard towards good results discouraging them from engaging in indiscipline, peer group influence, teenage pregnancies, alcoholism among others terming such as dream stealers that will determine their future.
Additionally, PS Ololtuaa challenged parents to learn to bless their children by speaking good about them rather than making negative statements about their children noting that such spoken words greatly influence what they want their children to be in future.
He further observed that academic excellence is possible with coordinated efforts between teachers, parents and learners.
“The spoken word about your child has powers to determine what they will be in future. You call them stupid that is exactly what they will become,” divulged the PS calling on parents to learn to speak positive words about their children.
Ololtuaa further called on teachers ensure they commit themselves in teaching learners to achieve excellent results divulging that it is through hard work that teachers receive God’s blessings adding that the government has played its role in supporting the education sector.
Present at the same event Tinderet constituency Member of Parliament Julius Melly who also doubles as the chair of parliamentary committee of education challenged St Elizabeth girls Senior School teachers to ensure 100 percent transition to university noting that the school has the capability of performing like any other best school in the country.
“As parents and leaders, we have high expectations from this school. If others have done it, you can also do it,” said the legislator lauding the girls for the good discipline record urging them to continue exercising discipline to excel academically.
Nandi Hills constituency member of national assembly Benard Kitur echoed the sentiments noting his commitment to supporting schools in his area of jurisdiction through the national government constituency development fund as a measure to ensure excellence in academics.
Kitur handed over a cheque of sh.6.5 million to St Elizabeth Girls Senior school of which sh.3million will aid in solarization of the school whereas the remaining balance will be utilized for renovation works in the school.
“I want to commend the school administration for the positive deviation in the last three years. I want this to be one of the best girls’ school in this constituency,” he said.
