Igembe South Deputy County Commissioner Noah Kibet has urged workers and other members of the public to embrace regular physical fitness activities to promote mental well-being.
Speaking in his office in Igembe South sub-county, Mr. Kibet said the increasing demands of modern life and workplaces have contributed to emotional exhaustion among many people, making it important to adopt healthy habits that support mental health.
He noted that engaging in physical exercise not only improves physical fitness but also boosts mood, enhances concentration, and increases productivity.
“Physical fitness is essential for both our physical and mental well-being. Regular exercise helps to relieve stress, prevent burnout, and improve our ability to cope with daily challenges,” he said.
Kibet encouraged workers to set aside time for activities such as walking, jogging, stretching, cycling, and participating in sports, saying that even simple exercises performed consistently can have a positive impact on mental health.
He requested employers and institutions to support workplace wellness programmes by creating opportunities for staff to engage in physical activities aimed at improving their overall well-being.
The administrator also urged individuals experiencing prolonged stress or emotional challenges to seek professional support, noting that addressing mental health concerns early can prevent more serious complications.
He emphasized that maintaining good mental health is a collective responsibility and challenged members of the community to support one another while creating awareness and reducing stigma associated with seeking mental health services.
The DCC encouraged people of all ages to make exercise part of their daily routine, saying that a healthy and mentally resilient community was key to enhanced productivity and subsequent community and national development.
