It was a double celebration in Embu Town on Saturday afternoon as Migori Youth FC was crowned Football Federation Kenya National Super League (NSL) champions, while a local team, 3KFC, made history after being promoted to FKF Premier League.
Migori Youth clinched the title on June 7 after winning the decisive match against Equity FC with a 2-1 victory at Awendo Green Stadium.
In the final match held at Embu Stadium, Migori Youth was held to a 1-1 draw by host team 3KFC, a match that sealed the FKF Premier League Promotion party for both teams.
3KFC drew first blood in the first half, igniting mass celebration from the home crowd in a fully packed stadium.
Migori Youth, however, sustained the offensive attacks and was rewarded with a dramatic equalizer during the additional minutes before the end of the match.
The draw ensured that Migori finished the season with 81 points, while 3K safely secured second-place automatic promotion with 77 points while Mombasa United followed with 76 points.
The match also attracted attendance from top leaders including the Public Service and Human Capital Development CS Geoffrey Ruku, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Migori Governor Dr. Ochilo Ayacko, Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi and also the President’s Nick Ruto.
Mbarire hailed the performance of 3KFC throughout the league that has placed the county on the national football map.
“Our boys, 3KFC, have done it, flying the Embu flag high and firmly placing our county on the national football map,” remarked the governor.
The Embu based club was promoted to NSL in May 2024 after emerging victorious in Division One Zone A league.
The team traces its humble beginnings back to 2003 when it was established as a community soccer project in Embu North Sub- County, where it was playing in the lower tiers.
