Lari Constituency, Kiambu County, is making notable strides in digital empowerment, even as the Kirenga Ward ICT Hub reaches a 60 per cent completion rate.
Lari Member of Parliament Joseph Mburu Kahangara has said Information and Communication Technology (ICT) hubs are community-based facilities designed to bridge the digital divide, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
In Kenya, these hubs, often supported through national initiatives like the Constituency Digital Innovation Hubs and NG-CDF projects, provide access to computers, high-speed internet, digital skills training, entrepreneurship support, and e-learning opportunities.
They serve as vital centers for youth empowerment, innovation, and preparation for the modern economy, aligning with broader national goals under Vision 2030 and the digital transformation agenda to equip citizens with relevant technological competencies.
Speaking on the progress, Kahangara expressed optimism about the project’s impact on local residents. “Kirenga Ward ICT hub is at a 60 per cent completion rate. Our children must acquire the relevant computer skills required in the 21st century,” he stated.
The hub, located in Kirenga Ward within Lari Constituency, Kiambu County, is expected to benefit thousands of students, youth, and small businesses once fully operational.
Upon completion, it will offer computer literacy programmes, coding workshops, internet connectivity, and resources for job creation in the digital space.
This initiative reflects the constituency’s commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that residents are not left behind in Kenya’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The MP emphasized the educational importance of the project, noting that digital skills are no longer optional but essential for competitiveness in today’s global economy.
He highlighted how the hub will enable children and young people to learn programming, digital entrepreneurship, online research, and other 21st-century competencies that open doors to employment and innovation opportunities both locally and internationally.
As construction progresses, Kahangara assured constituents of timely completion and full equipping of the facility.
He called on stakeholders, including the county government and development partners, to support complementary initiatives, such as teacher training and content development for sustained impact.
This milestone in Lari comes at a time when Kenya is accelerating its digital agenda, with emphasis on equipping the younger generation for future jobs dominated by technology.
The Kirenga ICT Hub stands as a beacon of progress, promising to transform lives through accessible knowledge and skills.
