Thika youth graduate from AI, digital skills program

The Kiambu County Library in Thika hosted its 24th graduation ceremony for the Library Innovation and Creative Hub, Marking a significant milestone in youth empowerment.

The event held Thursday celebrated a new cohort of graduates, who have successfully gained practical, job-ready skills designed to bridge the gap between education and employment.

This intensive three-month program equips the County’s youth with necessary skills for the modern economy. Beyond mastering AI, data analysis, and core computing, students learn to navigate the digital job market and online applications.

The curriculum also goes beyond tech by incorporating sign language and essential life skills to nurture well-rounded candidates ready for both corporate roles and entrepreneurial ventures.

The curriculum was organized by incorporating cutting-edge digital skills with mentorship-driven career coaching.

By learning directly from industry experts, the students gained the strategic edge necessary to make smart career moves and thrive in an increasingly competitive global technology workforce.

Kiambu County Director for Culture, Arts and Library Services Kennedy Mwangi, lauded the graduates’ dedication during the ceremony and further challenged them to move beyond the classroom by capitalizing on their new technical expertise to initiate meaningful transformation within their own lives and the wider community.

Mwangi noted that the county government remains committed to scaling youth initiatives by utilizing libraries as hubs for innovation ensuring that they serve as more than just book storehouses, but as essential centers for digital literacy and economic opportunity.

On his part, Thika West Sub-County Director of Education Maurice Sifuna who also joined the celebration as the guest of honour, challenged the graduands to remain alert and curious, reminding them that the modern workplace was a moving target that required constant self-reinvention and growth.

“This program is a bridge to the professional world, not just an academic exercise. I therefore urge you to use these new competencies to create your own opportunities and open doors across the industry,” noted Sifuna.

For many of the participants, the training was a transformative experience that helped bridge the gap between ambition and opportunity. The graduands noted that the introduction to digital networks and remote work applications had empowered them to navigate the competitive job market with newfound confidence.

Meanwhile, building on the Hub’s success, Kiambu County plans to expand its digital training to more areas. By growing these programs, the county aims to tackle youth unemployment and become a top destination for innovation.
