Chebokokwa Primary School borehole project launched to boost water access in Keiyo North

Residents of Cheboror Location in Kapchemutwo Ward,Keiyo North Sub-County are set to benefit from improved access to safe and reliable water following the official handing over of the Chebokokwa Primary School Borehole Project to the contractor by the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (NRVWWDA).

The project, which marks the commencement of construction works, is expected to provide a sustainable water supply to Chebokokwa Primary School and neighbouring communities, significantly improving access to clean water for domestic use, sanitation and learning activities.

The water infrastructure project comprises the drilling and equipping of a borehole, installation of a solar powered pumping system, construction of a pump house, a 24-cubic metre elevated steel storage tank, a water kiosk, sanitation facilities, and approximately 1.6 kilometres of water distribution pipelines.

Speaking during the site handover ceremony, NRVWWDA Manager for Infrastructure Development, Eng. Jimmy Kemboi, said the investment forms part of the Agency’s broader mandate of expanding sustainable water infrastructure across the North Rift region.

“The implementation of this project demonstrates the Agency’s continued commitment to developing strategic water infrastructure that enhances access to clean and safe water for our communities. Reliable water services are critical in improving public health, supporting education and promoting socio-economic development,” said Eng. Kemboi.

He noted that the adoption of a solar-powered pumping system would ensure environmentally sustainable and cost-effective operations while guaranteeing uninterrupted water supply to the beneficiaries.

Eng. Kemboi further urged the contractor to execute the works in accordance with the approved specifications, quality standards and timelines to ensure the project delivers the intended benefits.

Keiyo North Member of Parliament Adams Kipsanai, who witnessed the handover, welcomed the commencement of the project, describing it as a timely intervention that would address persistent water shortages experienced by the school and surrounding villages.

“Access to clean and safe water is fundamental to improving education, health, and livelihoods. This project will ease the burden on learners and residents who have travelled long distances in search of water and will contribute significantly to improving living standards in this area,” said the MP.

He commended the National Government through NRVWWDA for prioritizing water investments in rural areas and assured residents of his continued support for initiatives aimed at improving access to essential public services.

Residents expressed optimism that the project would reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases, improve sanitation standards and provide a dependable source of water throughout the year.

The handover ceremony brought together local administrators, community representatives, education stakeholders and residents, reflecting a collective commitment to the successful implementation of the project.

Once completed, the Chebokokwa Primary School Borehole Project is expected to enhance water security for the institution and neighbouring households.
