Narok County peace ambassador Joshua Ole Kaputa has urged the government to crack down on individuals fueling ethnic violence in the Transmara area, insisting that all perpetrators must be held accountable under the law.
Speaking in Narok town, Kaputa called on the security personnel to intensify patrols and arrest such culprits, adding that loss of lives at any given point is unacceptable.
“The loss of lives cannot be tolerated and therefore I urge the government not to spare rogue politicians and other individuals fueling the ethnic clashes,” he said.
He emphasized that peace is a collective responsibility and appealed to residents to safeguard it. “It is the responsibility of each and every individual to ensure that there is peace irrespective of their tribe or even social status. Through concerted effort, peace will prevail,” said Kaputa.
The peace ambassador was speaking to the elderly in Narok Central sub-county while distributing Christmas goodies to them.
He appealed to residents to uphold the spirit of sharing and especially with the less privileged members of the society during this festive season.
Meanwhile, the government has already gazetted several areas as disturbed and placed them under curfew. They include Nkararu in Trans Mara West and Oldonyo-Orok, Siteti, Ololoma, Corner, Rafiki, Isokon, Kerinkani, Kondamet, Olkiloriti, Angata Barakoi, Kapkeres, Lolgorian town, Mashangwa and Sachangwan in Trans Mara South.
Leaders in the area have echoed calls for calm, urging residents to shun violence and embrace peaceful coexistence, even as security personnel continue to man the area.
