By P, KNA

Turkana County Government has signed a recognition agreement with the Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers (KNUMLO), formally granting the union the right to operate within the county.

The agreement paves the way for KNUMLO to establish a local chapter in Turkana and champion the rights and welfare of its members.

With this development, Turkana becomes the 38th county in Kenya to grant recognition status to the union.

Speaking during the signing Friday, County Secretary, Dr Richard Ekai, who signed on behalf of the county, said the move demonstrates the government’s commitment to upholding staff rights to union membership in line with national labour laws.

On his part, KNUMLO Secretary-General, Pius Nyakundi, signed on behalf of the union during a brief ceremony held at the County Headquarters.

The occasion was witnessed by Chief Officer for Medical Services, Dr Gilchrist Lokoel, Director for Legal Services, Ekai Nabenyo, and Chair of the County Public Service Board, Peter Ingollan Ekunyuk, who also appended his signature to the agreement.
