Nyandarua County Government has announced the commencement of construction works at the new Ol Kalou Stadium, a modern sports complex set to transform the county’s sporting landscape.
Governor Kiarie Badilisha expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for facilitating the project, which will be undertaken by China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC) under the supervision of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
“We thank the President because the contractor building Talanta Stadium, China Roads and Bridges, has now started construction of the Ol Kalou Stadium. The machinery is already on site, and the work will officially begin in two weeks,” Governor Badilisha said.
According to the Governor, the new facility will feature a 10,000-seat capacity, with provisions for indoor games, basketball, volleyball, athletics track and a football pitch.
The county also plans to expand the perimeter wall to allow for future growth and accommodate more spectators.
The project, which is expected to be completed within one year, will meet international standards following a request from the county government to the President.
“We requested the President to help us build a stadium that meets internationally acceptable standards. He responded by sending the KDF to work with us and ensure CRBC delivers on time,” Badilisha added.
Engineer Gong Shan Qing of CRBC confirmed that all necessary equipment has arrived on-site and construction will proceed on schedule.
He projected that full completion with enhanced facilities could take up to one year.
The stadium’s proximity to the Nyandarua Arboretum, which already hosts swimming competitions, is expected to make the area a hub for both local and national sporting events, including Kenya Premier League matches.
Governor Badilisha emphasised that the facility will not only serve as a home ground for local athletes, many of whom have represented Kenya internationally, but also as a symbol of progress for the entire county.
Nyandarua has produced many athletes who have brought pride to the county with the Governor saying the stadium will give them a place to train and showcase their talent.
Once completed, the Ol Kalou Stadium is set to become one of the key sporting landmarks in the Central region, marking a major step forward in Nyandarua’s sports development agenda.
