Tigania East Member of Parliament Mpuru Aburi has called on Meru residents to resist pressure from the opposition to replace their legislators after only one term, arguing that frequent leadership changes undermine continuity and slows down development.
Speaking during a public forum in Tigania East Constituency, Mpuru said most development projects require time to be properly planned, funded and completed, noting that abrupt leadership changes often lead to stalled or abandoned initiatives.
The legislator urged voters to give elected leaders at least two terms in office, saying a single five-year term is insufficient to deliver major and complex development programmes.
“When you elect leaders, give them ample time to complete development projects in your regions,” Mpuru said, adding that five years is too short to initiate, implement and complete large-scale projects such as hospitals, roads and irrigation schemes.
He observed that many stalled projects across the region are a direct result of drastic leadership changes, where incoming leaders either abandon ongoing projects or introduce new priorities, leaving earlier initiatives incomplete.
Mpuru also used the forum to rally residents to support President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying continuity in leadership at both national and local levels is critical for sustained development.
Reflecting on his political journey, the MP, who returned to Parliament in 2022, said his defeat in the 2013 elections led to the suspension of several infrastructure and social projects he had initiated during his earlier term. He claimed that his successor failed to advance those projects, leaving residents without key services such as improved road networks, expanded electricity connectivity, irrigation schemes and bursary support for students.
According to Mpuru, his return to Parliament has enabled him to revive and complete several of the previously abandoned projects, with residents now witnessing tangible improvements in the constituency.
He cited ongoing road upgrades, renewed focus on electricity expansion and increased investment in community development as evidence that stability in leadership restores development momentum.
The legislator urged residents to remain focused on development and to vote for leaders committed to implementing projects that directly improve livelihoods and promote long-term growth in their communities.
