Maruti takes helm at ICT Authority

The Government has appointed Jessy Kiveu Maruti as the new Chief Executive Officer of the ICT Authority (ICTA), signalling renewed efforts to accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda.

Principal Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy, John Tanui, led senior ministry officials in welcoming the new CEO and pledged full institutional support to enable him to deliver on Kenya’s ambitious technology and connectivity targets.

Eng. John Tanui affirmed that he will work closely with the new CEO to fast-track the implementation of key flagship projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with the country’s broader digital transformation goals.

He noted that the key priorities include the rollout of 100,000 kilometres of fibre optic infrastructure and the establishment of 1,450 digital hubs nationwide to expand connectivity and enhance access to digital services.

The PS said the projects are designed to expand broadband access to public institutions, enhance service delivery, and position Kenya as a premier destination for technology investment.

ICTA Board Chairperson Lily Ng’ok said Mr. Maruti emerged successful after a rigorous and competitive recruitment process.

ICTA Board Chairperson, Hon. Lily Ng’ok, said Mr. Maruti was selected through a rigorous process, bringing over 25 years of telecoms experience.

He holds a master’s in ICT and has served in senior private and public sector roles.

In his acceptance remarks, Maruti, who is a digital transformation strategist, described his appointment as both an honour and a responsibility to serve the country at a crucial moment in its digital transformation journey.

He thanked the Cabinet Secretary, the Principal Secretary, and the ICTA Board for the opportunity and having confidence in him.

He pledged to uphold transparency, accountability, and collaboration while steering the Authority toward achieving digital programmes that support economic growth and innovation.

Outgoing Acting CEO, Zilpher Owiti, expressed confidence in Mr. Maruti’s leadership, stating that his experience and qualifications will strengthen the ICT Authority’s role in expanding digital services and advancing Kenya’s knowledge-based economy.

The appointment comes at a time when the government is accelerating efforts to bridge the digital divide and enhance connectivity nationwide, reinforcing Kenya’s ambition to become a regional technology powerhouse.
