Makueni County Government to spend Sh17m on bridge construction

The County Government of Makueni, through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Public Works, Housing and Energy, has allocated Sh 17 million to construct a mini bridge at Muangini drift in Mukaa Subcounty in a bid to boost transport in the area.

The construction of the drift, which is along the Muangini-Mbyani-Ngalani road (Muangini drift), will also connect the rural areas, which usually become impassable during the rainy season, hence improving economic growth.

Speaking on Monday at Muangini while inspecting the construction, the County Executive Committee Member (ECM) for Infrastructure, Transport, Public Works, Housing and Energy, Eng. Peter Mumo, said construction works will take about 4 months to complete.

“The project involves constructing a 3-cell box culvert, each with a 5*2.5m opening, to upgrade the Muangini Drift to enhance safety and ease movement for residents, traders, farmers, school children and emergency services and ensure all-weather access along the flood-prone section during the rainy season,” said Mumo during the inspection.

Mumo disclosed that Stafford Construction Company Limited has been awarded the contract and is expected to complete the project within the time outlined in the contract.

It should be observed that with the construction of the Muangini drift, transport will improve greatly to markets and schools, especially during the examination period when exam papers are airlifted to schools in the rainy season.

At the same time, farmers will transport their farm produce to local markets, hence avert losses, hence increase reaping of maximum profits and combat poverty.
