The Reer Aw-Mohamud family, a sub-clan of the Dagodia community, has endorsed Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed to represent the family in the Wajir County gubernatorial race in the 2027 General Election.
The endorsement was made during a ceremony in Wajir town attended by family members, community leaders and other stakeholders. The family described Kolosh as a capable leader with the experience and commitment needed to contribute to development and provide effective leadership to residents across the county.
The endorsement comes as political activities intensify in Wajir ahead of the 2027 General Election, with political parties, community groups and prospective candidates stepping up consultations and mobilization efforts.
Speaking during the ceremony, Kolosh said he was committed to promoting development, unity, peace and social cohesion among residents if elected governor.
“I am committed to working for the development of Wajir County and strengthening unity, peace and cohesion among our people,” he said.
Kolosh called on residents who had not acquired national identity cards to obtain the documents and subsequently register as voters to enable them to participate fully in the electoral process.
He said his campaign would focus on reaching residents at the grassroots to encourage eligible citizens to acquire identification documents and register as voters.
“We have formed a team to ensure that we reach every village and every household so that people can obtain identity cards and register as voters,” he said.
The gubernatorial aspirant also urged residents to participate peacefully and responsibly in the 2027 elections, saying voting was an important civic responsibility and a key opportunity for citizens to shape the future leadership of the county.
Kolosh said the Government had made commitments to address some of the challenges affecting residents of northern Kenya, including discrimination in the issuance of national identity cards and inadequate road infrastructure.
He cited the Isiolo-Mandera road, saying construction works were ongoing following a commitment by President William Ruto to improve the road and enhance connectivity across northern Kenya.
He also called for continued efforts to address cases of abductions and the labelling of residents as members or sympathizers of Al-Shabaab, saying such practices should end to ensure residents enjoy their rights without discrimination.
On healthcare, Kolosh urged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to enable them to access healthcare services and medicines through the national health insurance programme.
“SHA is a national health insurance programme. We are asking our people who have not registered to do so to access hospital services and medicines,” he said.
He urged residents to verify information about SHA by registering and seeking clarification at health facilities rather than relying on unverified claims circulating within communities or online.
Kolosh said his campaign would seek to mobilize residents peacefully while promoting unity, dialogue and social cohesion across Wajir County.
The 2027 gubernatorial contest is expected to attract several aspirants as political parties, community leaders and interest groups continue consultations ahead of the elections.
