Government intensifies security operations in Isiolo following attack

The Government has intensified security surveillance and operations in parts of Isiolo County following a deadly attack in the Gotu area, Eastern Regional Commissioner, Jacob Muganda, has said.

The midweek attack left two police officers, one National Police Reservist (NPR) and two civilians dead, prompting Regional and County Security Teams to visit the affected area and effect measures to pursue and apprehend perpetrators.

Mr. Muganda said additional security officers, armored vehicles and more NPRs would be deployed to strengthen patrols and improve the response to emergencies, particularly in areas affected by raids and livestock theft.

He warned individuals providing firearms, food or other support to criminal gangs, that they would be held accountable regardless of their position in society.

“The country is run under the rule of law and the government will not condone lawlessness of any form,” Muganda said.

He urged people in possession of illegal firearms to surrender them as security agencies intensify efforts to recover government firearms taken from the slain security officers.

Mr. Muganda called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as the operation to flush out criminals from their hideouts continues.

He at the same time urged residents to provide information on individuals involved in raids, livestock theft and other criminal activities, saying cooperation between the public and security agencies was essential in maintaining peace.

The Regional Commissioner said the government would continue deploying additional personnel and security equipment to other affected areas and work to restore lasting calm and protect residents.

He warned that those involved in livestock theft, raids and other criminal activities would face legal action.
