The Department of Youth Affairs, Sports, and Communication in Kiambu County is intensifying preparations for one of the region’s biggest sporting events of the year.
The County Executive Committee Member Ali Osman on Tuesday held a preparatory meeting with the Athletics Kenya (AK) Kiambu Branch team, led by Branch Chairperson Irene Wamuyu, to finalize plans for the upcoming Community Run. Scheduled for 8 November 2026 in Tigoni, Limuru Municipality,
The event will feature four categories—running, walking, skating, and cycling—and is expected to draw more than 1,000 participants.
Officials described it as a major sporting and community gathering aimed at uniting residents and promoting healthy lifestyles.
“This Community Run is more than a competition; it is a call for every resident of Kiambu to come together, stay active, and embrace a culture of wellness through sports,” said CECM Ali Osman.
“We are working closely with Athletics Kenya to ensure a well-organized, inclusive, and memorable day for families, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts alike.”
The meeting brought together key county and AK officials, including Chief Officer for Sports Godfrey Masolo, Chief Officer for Youth Affairs and Communication Dr. Mercy Njoki, AK Kiambu Branch Vice Chair Leonard Mwathi, Director of Sports Dorcas Muthoni, and Sports Commissioner Chege Gitangu.
Discussions focused on logistics, participant registration, safety measures, route planning, and community mobilization to maximize turnout.
Organizers emphasized that the multi-category format will accommodate people of all ages and fitness levels, from competitive runners to families seeking a leisurely walk or those interested in skating and cycling.
County officials noted that the event aligns with broader efforts to use sports as a tool for social cohesion and public health awareness. By staging the run in Tigoni, the department also hopes to showcase the area’s scenic environment while encouraging residents to prioritise physical activity.
Further details on registration, race categories, and supporting activities will be released in the coming weeks as preparations continue.
