Legislator condemns political hired goons, event disruptions and abductions, calls for peace

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has strongly condemned the resurgence of political goonism, disruptions of religious gatherings and alleged state-sponsored abductions.

The legislator on Thursday cautioned that the trend poses a serious threat to Kenya’s peace, democracy and the rule of law.

Speaking amid growing public concern over recent disruptions of public and church events, Nyoro said the country was witnessing a dangerous pattern of violence that should not be tolerated.

“We have had other governments before, but this is the only one that has started using goons. That is a very dangerous direction for our country,” Nyoro said.

The legislator condemned the use of goons, abductions, and enforced disappearances, describing them as grave violations of fundamental human rights and democratic principles.

He urged those orchestrating the violence, as well as those being recruited to carry it out, to abandon such acts.

“I want to warn those using goons and those allowing themselves to be used as goons to stop. Innocent Kenyans are getting injured and even losing their lives in the process. No political interest is worth the life of any Kenyan,” added the MP.

Nyoro stressed that peace remains the foundation of national development, saying the government has a responsibility to protect citizens and promote harmony rather than preside over violence and intimidation.

“For any country to prosper, peace is essential. The government should be at the forefront of advocating for peace, not the other way round,” He added.

The MP also called for the protection of democratic freedoms, insisting that Kenyans should be free to exercise their constitutional right to vote without fear, intimidation, or coercion.

“Kenyans must be allowed to practice their democracy freely. Every citizen should be able to vote for the leader of their choice without threats or intimidation,” He remarked.

Nyoro’s remarks come at a time when recent incidents involving the disruption of public and religious gatherings have sparked widespread condemnation and renewed calls for accountability from leaders, civil society groups and members of the public.
