Marsabit town residents woke up to a dejected mood following the brutal murder of a boda boda operator at Manyatta Ginda estate last night.
The incident which has thrown security agencies into a spin and that occurred at around 10pm has also sparked off protests in the town.
Fellow boda boda riders took to the streets for the best part of the morning to protest against the murder and to press for the arrest and prosecution of those behind the killing of their colleague.
Marsabit Central Deputy County Commissioner David Saruni said the victim, aged 30 years, was killed in cold blood by two unknown persons who had posed as customers.
Mr Saruni said preliminary investigations show that the suspects on the run approached the deceased outside a local entertainment joint located in the middle of the town and requested that they be taken to Manyatta Ginda but turned against him upon reaching the estate.
The DCC added that the attackers stabbed him several times and slit his throat and dumped the body into a trench.
The neighborhood, including a national police reservist who was on duty nearby, was attracted by the victim’s screaming, forcing the suspected criminals to disappear into the darkness.
Mr Saruni said investigations have been launched into the incident adding that the motive of the killing is not yet known but it’s suspected that the killers could have been after his motorcycle which is a brand new one.
“The detectives from DCI are on this case and you can be rest assured that the culprits will be brought to book,” he said and appealed for calm.
The DCC advised boda boda operators who conduct business at night to be wary of strangers seeking their services and to report such characters to the authorities.
