Chairman clears the air over allegations concerning county tractors

Embu  County  Assembly committee in charge of Roads and Infrastructure has refuted claims that the county government of Embu has sold construction tractors.

The allegations have been spreading following the stalled construction of roads after the tractors were grounded at Don Bosco area six months ago.

According to Muriithi Kuria, the chairman of the committee said no tractor has been sold but they have been grounded due to lack of spare parts.

Speaking to the press, Kuria said the tractors and graders have had mechanical problems and it was hard to get spare parts from abroad as they were not available locally.

“The earth movers are grounded at Don Bosco area where they are serviced due to outstanding debts and lack of spare parts to repair them,” said Kiura.

Kuria said the spare parts were very costly which forces the county to import them from outside the country hence the tractors have been grounded for the last six months.

“The breakdown of the tractors has stalled construction of many roads leading to their deterioration,” he added.

Kuria who is also the MCA Mbeti South also challenged the national government to fast track completion of the construction of Kiritiri-Siakago road to facilitate good transport.

The  Embu Deputy Governor, David Kariuki requested Embu Governor, Martin Nyaga Wambora to allow him to take charge of the tractors to ensure close monitoring.

Kariuki said the main challenge the county government was facing is maintenance of the tractors since the spare parts are not locally available.
