Commissioner cautions political leaders in Kisii

Kisii County Commissioner Tom Anjere has cautioned the political leaders in the region against violent encounters during public gatherings.

Speaking to the press in Kisii town, Anjere said the government will not condone meetings that turn chaotic and anyone found culpable will be brought to book.

The CC condemned the unfortunate incident that occurred in the county where supporters of Kisii Governor Simba Arati and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro clashed at Nyakembene market in Gucha South sub county on Monday.

He confirmed that four people were nursing injuries following the incident and assured the residents of Kisii that the security team is working tirelessly to ensure that such an occurrence does not happen again.

The County Commissioner noted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations had begun probing the incident and pleaded with the residents injured in the chaos to report the matter to the nearest police station to aid in the probe.

“We are not going to look at one’s position, whether you are an MCA, MP or Governor, anyone involved in the recent chaos will be reprimanded. The law must be followed to the letter,” Anjere said.

Further, he decried the series of meetings that turned violent in the county last year adding that political leaders ought to respect each other, respect the law as well as the positions they are holding.

“I am warning the political leaders that we are watching you, and we are going to respect you to the extent where you are able to respect the law,” the CC noted.

Anjere also appealed to the police to act decisively and professionally adding that they should not be intimidated by the political class in the county because their duty is to serve the people.

Speaking separately, a section of Members of Kisii County Assembly led by Basi Central MCA and Majority Leader Henry Moracha also castigated the attack on innocent civilians who were attending to county bursary issues by the Governor in Gucha South sub county.

The MCAs said the attack on the residents of Boikang’a Ward in South Mugirango Constituency was a serious security threat posed to the residents and wished the many victims of the attack who were nursing injuries both at home and in hospitals a quick recovery.

According to the leaders, the arrival of South Mugirango MP to the Governor’s event sparked off the violence as gun shots immediately rented the air and armed youth with stones and other crude weapons began assaulting the residents forcing the crowd to scamper for safety.

The MCAs petitioned the government through the Interior Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Kithure Kindiki to speed up the investigations in the matter and ensure those involved in the attack of residents and vandalizing of county vehicles, including the political leaders, are apprehended.
