The residents of Olal Kotiang’ Village in Nyakach Sub-county, Kisumu county rolled up their sleeves on Thursday to repair the dilapidated Olal–Kotiang’ access road.
The community-driven initiative aimed at easing mobility, boost local trade, and improve access to schools and health facilities.
Villagers welcomed the effort, saying the road upgrade would significantly improve livelihoods and unlock opportunities for development.
“This road has been a challenge for years, especially during the rainy season. Today, seeing everyone come together gives us hope that our children will reach school more easily and that farmers will get their produce to market without delays,” said one resident.
The exercise drew the support of nominated MCA Regina Kizito, who joined the villagers in repairing damaged sections of the critical access road.
She hailed the initiative as a testament to the power of collective action in addressing grassroots challenges.
“Community initiative programs are at the heart of my mandate, and today I joined the people of Olal Kotiang’ village in repairing the damaged road sections,” Kizito said.
She stressed that apart from improving infrastructure, such projects also strengthen community ties and promote resilience.
“Together, we continue to prove that collective effort is the key to building stronger, more connected communities.
As leaders, we shall come together to ensure that our villages have good roads, electricity, and water, because every community deserves the essentials for growth and dignity,” she added.
