County Beefs Efforts to Nurture Good Health for Children

Kisumu Medical and Education Trust has partnered with the Vihiga County Government to upscale the nurturing of enhanced healthcare for Early Childhood Development Education.

The Trust’s Executive Director Monica Oguttu said the initiative is implemented under the health pillar in the 14 Lake Region Economic Block (LREB) counties.

The LREB counties include Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Migori, Trans-Nzoia, Nandi, Bomet, Kericho, Kisii, Nyamira, Homa Bay and Vihiga

Oguttu, who spoke during a meeting with Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo in his office on Monday, said the programme aims at ensuring that all the children aged 0-8 years not only survive but thrive.

“This initiative is intended to assist children develop to their full potential in their first 1,000 days,” she explained.

Governor Ottichilo said his administration initiated the maternal and child healthcare promotion three years ago which has resulted in a reduction in mortality rates for the targeted groups.

The Governor stated that the campaign has impacted on the increased number of mothers undertaking skilled deliveries while 97 per cent of the under-fives have undergone immunization in the county.

He pledged to work hand in hand with the team to ensure they nurture good health for the children.
