Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a woman in Mombasa over allegations of misusing social media in a case that is under investigation.
The suspect, identified by the Directorate Criminal Investigations (DCI) as Halima Ngache, also known as Princess Halima, was arrested on Tuesday during an intelligence led operation in Kadzandani, Nyali Sub-County.
According to the agency, the arrest followed investigations linking her to an X account, formerly known as Twitter. The DCI alleged that the account published sensitive information concerning the movements of protected persons. Investigators are treating the matter as a possible threat to national security and said inquiries are still ongoing.
“The suspect is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment,” the DCI said.
The agency did not disclose further details about the investigation but said the case would proceed in accordance with the law. It emphasized that the suspect will be presented before court once the necessary procedures are completed.
The DCI also reminded Kenyans that although the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression, that right should be exercised responsibly and within the limits of the law and further urged social media users to avoid sharing information that could endanger the safety of protected persons or create public unrest.
Authorities appealed to members of the public to support efforts aimed at maintaining security by reporting suspicious activities through the #FichuaKwaDCI platform, the toll-free number 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
The arrest comes at a time when security agencies are paying closer attention to the use of digital platforms as online discussions continue to play a growing role in public affairs.
Officials say they remain committed to protecting national security while respecting constitutional rights and due process. They have encouraged the public to use social media responsibly as investigations continue.
