Departmental Heads Advised to Embrace Teamwork

Nairobi Regional Commissioner (RC) Gilbert Kitiyo, has urged all Regional and County Heads working in the County, to embrace teamwork for collective effort in efficient and effective service delivery to the public.

Kitiyo said the government has initiated several programmes and projects through various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), to benefit the citizenry and for the nation to reap maximum benefits. He added that it requires team spirit in sensitizing the public on the significance of the projects under implementation and also in monitoring them.

“We cannot afford to work in silos as we want all public servants to become team players while providing services to Kenyans,” stressed Kitiyo.

He said all MDAs should fast track the projects and programmes they are undertaking and ensure they are as per the specifications indicated in the contract agreement and are completed as per the stipulated period.

The RC was speaking during the National Government Delivery-Regional/County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-RICMC/CICMC) meeting held at his Boardroom at Nyayo House, Nairobi.

He at the same time noted that the Regional NGD-RICMC/CICMC is in charge of coordination of national development projects, programmes and presidential directives and emphasized on the need for officers to be monitoring and evaluating on-going projects for quality work.

“You should be in the forefront in coordinating and monitoring development projects in your areas and in case you detect problems in the implementation, escalate it to the relevant authorities,” advised Kitiyo.

On development projects, the RC said the government is constructing various roads, markets and affordable housing within the county to uplift the living standards of the citizenry as per the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda pillars and urged public servants to sensitize the public on SHA registration and the 100 percent transition.

The RC also urged heads of departments to strictly adhere to their role of supervising their staff, in order to avoid incidences where officers are distracted by their businesses and other issues not related to their work during office hours.

He also reminded them about the need to keep their environments clean, singling out the filling systems, dress code of staff members, stressing that public officers should always be smart in their presentation.

During the meeting, the Acting Chief Executive Officer, Bomas of Kenya, Jimmy Okidiang’i informed the Committee on the progress of the on-going construction works of the State-of-the-Art, Bomas International Convention Complex (BICC) project, that is expected to position Nairobi as a regional and premier area for holding conferences, exhibitions and other events.

Okidiang’i said the Institution’s flagship project, which is government funded, and has impact on the country’s economic stimulus will create jobs during construction period and after.

“This project also aims to boost conference tourism, support growth, expand Kenya’s event and aviation ecosystem,” he said.

He said the project, which commenced in March this year is expected to be completed in March 2026 and has an overview capacity of 11,000 pax and will comprise of a convention and performance facilities, general conference and event spaces, support facilities and amenities.

The meeting was also attended by the Nairobi County Commissioner, David Wanyonyi, Director Government Delivery Unit Jonah Orumoi and the Sub- County Deputy County Commissioners.
