The Evangelical Alliance of Kenya (EAK) has called for intensified national prayer and continued investment in quality education, saying the two are critical to Kenya’s social and economic transformation.
The call was made during the Alliance’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and release of its 2026 communiqué, held in Nairobi on Friday.
Speaking after the AGM, EAK General Secretary Rev. Kepha Nyandega said the Church would continue championing the Kenya National Prayer and Transformation Movement as a platform for fostering moral renewal, responsible citizenship and national cohesion.
“While policies and institutions are important, true national transformation begins with transformed hearts,” said Nyandega, urging churches, families and institutions to actively participate in prayer, discipleship and civic responsibility.
Nyandega highlighted the importance of sustained support for schools and universities and encouraged broad stakeholder participation in ongoing education reforms to enhance learning outcomes.
He emphasized the role of a stable and inclusive education system in promoting equal opportunities and supporting Kenya’s long-term development goals.
“The education of our children remains one of the most important investments we can make as a nation,” he said, adding that academic excellence should be accompanied by character formation, emotional well-being and spiritual development.
The general secretary also encouraged the strengthening of counselling and chaplaincy services in learning institutions to support learners’ holistic growth and well-being.
Incoming EAK National Chairman Bishop Calisto Odede challenged the Church to embrace its prophetic mandate by speaking out on matters of truth, justice and integrity.
“The Church must remain a prophetic voice in society, courageously speaking for righteousness while demonstrating God’s love and compassion to all,” said Odede.
He noted that faith-based organisations have a key role in promoting accountability, strengthening families and supporting efforts aimed at building a peaceful and united nation.
Meanwhile, outgoing EAK National Chairman Bishop Philip Kitoto expressed confidence in Kenya’s future, saying the country has the capacity to overcome its challenges through collective action and responsible leadership.
“Kenya possesses the resources and people necessary to build a more just, peaceful and prosperous society,” Kitoto said, urging citizens to embrace integrity, accountability and responsible citizenship.
