More than 900 residents of West Asembo ward in Rarieda sub-county benefitted from a two days free eye and dental check-up courtesy of Doctors from the First United Methodist church in America.
The free medical care which was organized by an organization called Nyogaya Foundation in partnership with Siaya County government and the American doctors also saw the residents benefit from dental care and other treatments.
Speaking during the close of the two days camp at St. Joseph’s Obaga dispensary, Patron of Nyogaya Foundation Mr. Tom Odhiambo Agutu challenged professionals from Siaya County to make use of their connections to uplift the social standards of their people back at home.
He said that instead of sitting back to wait for the government or politicians to develop the region, sons and daughters of Siaya County and more specifically those with international connections can take advantage of such networks to contribute to the development of their regions.
Agutu stated for instance that through his connection with First Methodist Church in the US, they have been able to support people’s livelihoods through provision of safe water, scholarships to vulnerable students and construction of a healthcare facility together with establishment of many economic empowerment programmes for the widows and orphans within West Asembo.
Members of community welcomed and commended the initiative saying that through the American doctors, they got a chance of accessing better eye and dental treatment.
