Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa on Sunday joined worshippers at Emalindi Catholic Church in Kisa East Ward, Khwisero Sub- County, where he urged residents to maintain peace and unity during the forthcoming MCA by-election.
Speaking after the service, Governor Barasa emphasized the need for tolerance and political maturity as campaigns intensify ahead of the November poll.
He called on voters to exercise their democratic rights peacefully and give all candidates a fair chance to present their agendas.
“I urge the people of Kisa East to turn out in large numbers and vote peacefully. Let us uphold the spirit of brotherhood and avoid divisions during this election period,” said Barasa.
The governor was accompanied by the candidates eyeing the seat, Joel Ongoro, Khatete Mumia and James Siraku in what appeared to be a show of unity and mutual respect among the contenders.
ODM regional coordinator Justus Kizito, County Assembly Majority Leader Philip Maina, Finance CECM Benjamin Andama, and Chief Officer Dan Sumba also attended the church service.
Barasa reiterated his government’s commitment to fostering development and peace across all wards in Kakamega, adding that the by-election should not derail the county’s progress agenda.
The Kisa East Ward seat fell vacant following the death of the area MCA in 2023.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set the by-election for November 27.
