Health care systems and services in Nyamira fully functional, Nyaribo

Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has affirmed that healthcare systems and services in Nyamira County health care facilities are fully operational and residents should freely seek medical services.

Nyaribo affirmed on Thursday, during a presser at the Nyamira Referral Hospital (NRH) premises after doing rounds of inspection to various critical sections of the facility, that the equipment that undertakes critical tests and treatment procedures are indeed in working condition.

Nyaribo dismissed claims by the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, on Wednesday at the Senate that the Healthcare system had collapsed due to poor leadership, terming them as baseless.

He assured residents that critical services offered through CT scan, x-ray, and dialysis machines at Nyamira County Referral Hospital are ongoing optimally and uninterruptedly.

Earlier, he inspected various units and machines at the hospital, as he challenged CS Duale to visit the hospitals in Nyamira to get firsthand experience and facts on the ground as well as the operation status of the health facilities.

The Governor further challenged the Ministry of Health to reimburse arrears of up to a tune of Sh454 million owed to the county under the Social Health Authority (SHA), despite Nyamira being ranked sixth nationally in premium contributions and position 16 in registration.

County Executive Committee member (CECM) for Health Dr. Donald Mogoi underscored that Nyamira County was number 16 in SHA registration countrywide, with 56.9% of the population under the cover seeking services in our health facilities within Nyamira county.

“It is worrying that our County was paid the lowest in the form of reimbursement claims among the counties under the medical scheme, yet we rank highly on its remittances. Our county served 5,939 patients in 2025 who needed specialized X-rays and CT scans and 5,722 routine X-rays and imaging, a confirmation that our machines are in serviceable condition in offering specialized services.” CECM Mogoi confirmed.

Concerns over wanting health care services in Nyamira County were raised by Nyamira County Senator Okongo Omogeni at the Senate on Wednesday, asserting that the facilities need to be inspected and CS Duale replied, saying the governor was unable to make a request to be supplied with hospital equipment under the National Government Equipment Programme (NGEP) to enable efficient service delivery for patients who visit the hospital.
