Health officer dies in a grisly road accident in Homa Bay County 

A  senior  Ministry of Health Officer in Rachuonyo East Sub county has died in a grisly road accident near Atela in Chabera  Trading Centre  along  Sondu – Oyugis road  last night.

Enock Kopiyo  who  was the Sub County Disease Surveillance Officer  died on the spot after his car which he was driving towards Chabera trading centre collided head-on with a Nissan matatu which was plying from Oyugis towards Kisumu.

Confirming  the incident to KNA, Rachuonyo East Sub county Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Dr. Ray Kajwang’ said that the deceased was driving to his home in Chabera at around 7.00Pm from Sondu when the accident occurred.

Dr. Kajwang  added that upon reaching near Atela Primary School his vehicle collided head on with the Nissan Matatu thus  killing him instantly.

His  sentiments were also supported by the area chief Peres Muga who said that the deceased died just a few meters from the gate of his home situated next to primary.

Muga  added that the body of the deceased was removed from the scene by police officers from Othoro Police station.

The administrator further said that the two vehicles were towed to Othoro Police station for inspection and further

investigations.

The  body of the deceased has been taken to Rachuonyo Sub county Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Police  Officers have also launched investigation over the incident.
