Police in Uasin Gishu County have launched a major manhunt for a hospital employee accused of defiling a minor patient at a private medical facility in Eldoret City.
The suspect, a cleaner at Living Room International Hospital, allegedly committed the offence on July 21 at the facility located along the busy Eldoret-Kaptagat road. The incident was reported to the Ainabkoi police station by the victim’s parents.
Confirming the incident to Kenya News Agency on Tuesday evening, Ainabkoi Sub County Police Commander Charles Getende assured the public that officers are actively pursuing the suspect.
“Security agents are hot on the heels of the suspected defiler, and it is just a matter of time before we apprehend him so that he can face justice for the heinous act he is alleged to have committed against the minor,” Getende stated.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect, who has been employed at the hospital for a decade, is believed to have fled the area. His last mobile phone signal was reportedly traced to Kitale town in Trans Nzoia County, the police revealed.
“Matters related to sexual offences, especially those involving minors, are serious in nature. The DCI is narrowing down on the suspect to ensure he faces justice,” Getende added.
The police chief has appealed to the public for assistance in locating the fugitive, urging anyone with information that could lead to his arrest to come forward.
The victim’s families, who have chosen to remain anonymous, reported that the minor had been taken to the hospital for treatment and was asked to provide a stool sample. It was during a visit to the hospital washroom that she allegedly encountered the cleaner, whom the family accuses of sexually assaulting her.
The family says the ordeal has left the minor deeply traumatized and unable to resume her normal school routine.
The victim’s father expressed shock and disappointment over the incident, questioning the hospital’s response.
“I am shocked that such a heinous act took place at a hospital established on the principles of promoting dignified treatment for the sick and which receives significant financial support from churches and Christian donors both locally and abroad,” he said.
“It is unfortunate that the hospital management has not taken any initiative to ensure justice is served to our daughter since the incident occurred last month,” he added.
When contacted for comment, Living Room International Hospital Director Titus Boit declined to discuss the allegations, citing the ongoing police investigation.
“We are unable to comment on the matter because the police have taken over the case, which is under investigation,” Boit stated.
Living Room International Hospital is a faith-based Level 4 health facility located approximately 9.4 kilometres from Eldoret City. The 91-bed hospital is operated by Living Room Ministries International, a Christian organisation founded by Pastor David Tarus.
The institution, which incorporates faith-based values into its healthcare services, was established with support from local and international Christian partners. The ministry is registered as a non-profit corporation in the State of California.
