Kajiado breaks ground for new KMTC training campus

The Kajiado County Government, in partnership with Kipeto Energy, has broken ground for the construction of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kajiado campus in a move aimed at expanding access to medical training for local students.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony in Ildamat Ward, Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku said the county has set aside 50 acres of land for the project, expressing confidence that the campus will be completed within four months.

He added that the county plans to allocate an additional Sh20 million in the next financial year to accelerate development.

Lenku noted that the new KMTC campus will bring training opportunities closer to residents, addressing longstanding challenges faced by students, who have been forced to travel long distances in search of medical education.

“For many years, students from Kajiado have incurred high transportation and accommodation costs to access training in distant institutions. This campus will make education more accessible and affordable,” he said.

The governor emphasized that the institution will play a vital role in addressing the growing demand for skilled health professionals while strengthening the county’s healthcare system.

He commended the Kenya Medical Training College for its collaboration and urged its management to prioritize the development of essential infrastructure at the facility.

Lenku reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare services, noting that efforts are ongoing to enhance access to universal health coverage for all residents.

KMTC Board Chairman Joseah Cheruiyot lauded the county government for the initiative, stating that investment in training institutions is critical to building a strong and sustainable healthcare workforce.

He added that human resources remain a key pillar in achieving universal health coverage.

Kipeto Energy Director Kenneth Namunje said the company has committed Sh10 million towards infrastructure development at the campus, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

He noted that the partnership reflects the private sector’s role in supporting community development initiatives.

Kajiado County Executive Committee Member for Health Alex Kilowua assured residents that the county will provide the necessary resources and personnel to ensure the project is completed within the set timeline.
