The staff of the Baringo County’s Huduma centre have mobilized donations of foodstuff and assorted household items to Kapsergon School for the Intellectually Impaired children.
The staff in partnership with other stakeholders in the county in Baringo Central extended the goodwill gesture the needy children as they mark this year’s Customer Service Week.
The items including 5 bags of 50kg maize, 2 bags of 50kg rice,2 bags of 50kg of beans, cooking oil, boxes of bar soap, sanitary towels, diapers, laundry detergents, biscuits and milk will go along way in alleviating the needs at the institution.
During the colourful event that brought smiles to the children the local Huduma Centre manager Hellen Masit led the stakeholders, teachers and learners in a dance gig as the visitors freely interacted with the children showering them with love.
Ms Masit decried the debilitating state at the facility adding that the general infrastructure at the school housing 32 learners needed a facelift challenging local leadership and well-wishers to step forward and mobilize resources for the same.
“The school is in dire need of many items, even the infrastructure itself is in bad shape, and both the learners and their teachers are actually surviving just by the grace of God. They lack almost every basic need,” observed the manager.
The manager pledged to rally stakeholders to do something to better the condition at the institution for the special children to learn and live in a conducive environment like other normal kids.
The Board chairman of the school Evans Tarus in his remarks thanked Baringo Huduma Centre staff for their generous gesture and love to them during the customer service week.
Mr Tarus flanked by head of institution (HOI) Isaiah Kipkangor called on other donors to assist the special school to put up better infrastructural facilities in order for the mentally impaired children to enjoy life to the fullest.
Among the local partners which accompanied and participated in the trip to the school are Baringo county government, Red Cross, Radio Alpha, Baringo GK prisons, PS Baringo, Judiciary and TSC.
