The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) has congratulated Athletics Kenya, the government, the bid team, athletes, and all Kenyans following the successful bid for the country to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships in Nairobi.
NOC-K President Shadrack Maluki described the achievement as a historic moment for Kenya and the larger African continent, noting that it reflects the country’s rich athletics heritage, proud sporting tradition, and the exceptional talent and potential of Kenyan athletes.
“On behalf of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Athletics Kenya, under the leadership of President, Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Jackson Tuwei, the Government of Kenya, our athletes, the bid team, and all Kenyans on securing the right to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships in Nairobi,” he said.
Maluki said Kenya is ready to welcome athletes, officials, fans, and visitors from around the world and deliver a world-class championship that will create a lasting impact beyond the competition itself.
He noted that hosting the championships presents an important opportunity to inspire Kenya’s young people, accelerate the development of sporting infrastructure, create opportunities for athletes and communities, and establish a lasting legacy for future generations.
“This is more than a championship. It is an opportunity to showcase Kenya’s excellence, hospitality, culture, and sporting spirit to the world, while affirming Africa’s capacity to host and deliver major global sporting events,” he said.
The NOC-K President further emphasized that the successful bid demonstrates Kenya’s commitment to advancing sport and strengthening the country’s position as a leading destination for major international sporting events.
Maluki congratulated all those who contributed to the successful bid and called on Kenyans to unite in preparing to host a memorable and successful World Athletics Championships.
He extended his best wishes to Athletics Kenya, the government, the athletes, organizers, partners, and the people of Kenya, even as preparations begin for the 2029 World Athletics Championships.
