Implementation of the Affordable Housing Programme continues to transform lives across Kenya by creating jobs, improving access to decent homes and supporting local economies.
Kiambu County is among the counties benefiting from the initiative, with construction of the Kiambu Affordable Housing Project recording a steady progress as the government works to expand access to affordable housing.
The project is currently at approximately 31 per cent completion, with seven huge residential blocks under construction and five more expected to begin soon. Once completed, the development will provide 2,016 housing units comprising bedsitters, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments to cater for the housing needs for Kenyans with varying income levels.
Project Clerk of Works, Kevin Muthitu expressed confidence in the project’s progress, saying construction is moving according to plan.
“The progress on site has been encouraging and the work is moving at a good pace. We are confident that the project will be completed within the planned timeline if the current momentum is maintained,” said Muthitu.
The project continues to generate employment opportunities for local residents while boosting businesses that supply construction materials and other services. As construction progresses, the development is contributing to economic growth in Kiambu County and supporting the government’s efforts to address Kenya’s housing shortage.
Young professionals are also benefiting through the Affordable Housing Programme’s internship initiative. Graduate interns in fields such as construction management, architecture, engineering and quantity surveying are gaining practical experience by working alongside experienced professionals on affordable housing sites. The initiative equips them with hands-on skills and workplace experience helping prepare them for careers in the construction industry.
Construction of the project began in October 2025 under the national Affordable Housing Programme and has continued to record steady progress through its different phases. The construction of the remaining five blocks is expected to further accelerate the development as work moves closer to completion.
Upon completion, the Kiambu Affordable Housing Project is expected to provide thousands of Kenyans with access to safe, modern and affordable homes while promoting sustainable urban development.
The project reflects the government’s continued commitment to improving living standards and making decent housing more accessible to citizens across the country.
