Edwin Kipruto and Viola Chepngeno are the new champions of the Eldoret City Marathon 6th Edition, 2025, in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Kipruto clinched the title after covering 42.195-kilometer full marathon race in 2.11.21, while Chepngeno covered the distance in a time of 2.26.22.
Geoffrey Chirchir and Kipchumba Timothy emerged as second and third winners in the men’s category clocking times of 2.11.56 and 2.12.08, respectively.
On the lady’s side Jebichi Shaila and Koech Gladys clinched the second and third positions in a time of 2.26.54 and 2.29.55 respectively.
Kipruto lauded the management of the race noting that it was a pleasure to participate in the Eldoret City Marathon to assess his skills and talent in athletics hoping to attract sponsorship that will give him wider exposure and enable him to participate in other big races both in the country and abroad.
“I am grateful today because God has enabled me to win this race, I had prepared well in my training, which gave me confidence to win,” he said.
He encouraged other young athletes to train hard so as to participate in such races, noting that they are well-paying and adding that they offer good exposure as well as an opportunity to refine competitive skills.
Jebichii, who took position 30 in the same race in the 2022 edition, expressed great joy for finishing second in 2025, noting that she had embraced discipline and hard work to improve her performance on the track.
“The race was not easy; the weather was hot, but with thorough training, I gave myself confidence to be the second winner,” said Jebichii.
The Race Director, Moses Tanui, pointed out that the marathon’s mission is not only to grow talents but also to run for climate action, to conserve the environment by growing trees to ensure quality and fresh air all the time.
“We run for climate action, to ensure fresh air for our athletes to train all hours round; we envision the marathon to be a world-class marathon,” said The Race Director.
