Kirinyaga youth urged to seek help instead of committing  suicide

Kirinyaga County residents, particularly the youth, have been urged to seek guidance and support from family members, religious leaders, chiefs, and other community leaders whenever they face challenges, instead of resorting to suicide or other harmful actions.

Speaking during a public sensitization forum, Kirinyaga County Commissioner (CC) Shufaa Omar Mwijuma said that while life presents many challenges, every problem has a solution, and no challenge should drive a person to end their life.

She noted that persons experiencing emotional distress should speak to trusted people in their communities, including chiefs, pastors, sheikhs, or other elders, who can help them find assistance.

“There is no problem that cannot be solved under the sun. Whenever you are in trouble, reach out and seek help because there are people, who are ready to listen and support you,” the Commissioner said.

The CC also encouraged unemployed youth to take advantage of government programmes such as youth enterprise funds, affordable housing facilities, and other economic initiatives that enable them to start businesses or secure employment.

“Instead of losing hope, young people should embrace the available opportunities to earn a living. Suicide is never the solution,” she noted.

She further condemned the rising cases of domestic violence, urging couples to resolve conflicts peacefully and protect the welfare of their children, noting that family disputes often leave lasting psychological effects on children.

Mwijuma appealed to residents to strengthen family bonds and support vulnerable individuals, saying collective responsibility and open communication are key to addressing social challenges and promoting mental well-being.
