A section of Kuresoi South Subcounty residents staged a protest outside subcounty headquarters following the recent transfer of their Deputy County Commissioner Malack Namai who they termed as transformative leader who had managed the security in the area.
The residents are now calling on the Ministry of Interior to reverse the transfer of the Deputy County Commissioner to Rachuonyo East, saying his exit will undermine ongoing efforts to restore stability in the region.
Addressing the press in Keringet town led by former councilor David Sitienei, the residents praised Mr Namai for what they described as admirable service, particularly in fighting illicit brews and enhancing security.
“We are appealing to the Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen to rescind this transfer and allow the DCC to remain until and after the forthcoming general election for peace and stability of the people of Kuresoi South,” said Sitienei.
The former legislator added that Kuresoi South has long struggled with protracted land ownership dispute challenges that he said often go unresolved due to the frequent transfer of government officials.
“Every time an officer understands the issues and begins making progress, they are moved. This constant reshuffling is why our land questions remain unsolved,” he said.
Similar sentiments were echoed by residents John Towett and Erustus Ngetich, who argued that the government should stop transferring hardworking officers who have shown commitment to improving the welfare of the community.
According to the residents, Mr Namai has played a pivotal role in promoting community policing initiatives, which they say have helped reduce criminal activity and strengthen collaboration between locals and security agencies.
The residents have vowed to continue with protest until the matter is accorded the much-needed attention by the concern parties.
