Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka has pledged to champion the welfare of boda boda operators by supporting initiatives, aimed at improving their livelihoods.
He was speaking during a consultative meeting with riders drawn from Manyulia, Bama, Doho Junction, Ombwara Junction and Emutsasa markets.
The MP said the boda boda sector has become a key pillar of the local economy by creating employment and providing essential transport services to residents.
Aseka said the meeting gave riders an opportunity to speak openly about the challenges affecting their work, including insecurity and limited economic opportunities.
He noted that listening to those on the ground is important in finding practical and lasting solutions.
“We want our boda boda operators to work in a safe environment, where they can earn a decent living and support their families,” he said.
The legislator pledged to work closely with security agencies, local leaders and the riders to improve safety and promote programmes that will strengthen the sector.
The riders welcomed the engagement, saying it gave them a platform to air their concerns and express their expectations.
They expressed optimism that closer cooperation with the MP and other stakeholders would help create a safer and more supportive environment for the boda boda fraternity across Khwisero Constituency.
