The Linda Mwananchi political group is set for a rally in Homa Bay town after acquiring a permit from the police yesterday.
The group’s leaders led by county coordinator Samuel Nyauke told opposing camps to avoid causing chaos during their August 16th rally.
This comes in the wake of disruption of Siaya Governor James Orengo’s meetings in Homa Bay town last month that left two men injured.
The regrettable incident occurred when the Linda Mwananchi supporters and those supporting President Ruto’s re-election fought at Junction Kodoyo in Homa Bay town.
On Tuesday, Nyauke led a team of the movement officials to Homa Bay Police Station where they acquired a permit.
Addressing the media moments later Nyauke told their counterparts who are allied to Dr. Oburu Oginga to maintain peace during the meeting noting politics should be conducted maturely without physical confrontation.
“I appeal to ODM members who are supporting President Ruto’s re-election not cause violence during our meeting. We are also going to ensure our supporters are peaceful during the event,” Nyauke said.
He said that politics should not be perceived as a do or die contest maintaining that politics is about selling policies rather than violence. “You cannot attack people in order to vote for you to become a leader. Politics is about selling policies to persuade voters,” Nyauke said.
Clifford Obiero, who is vying for the Rangwe Parliamentary seat reiterated Nyauke’s remarks stressing: “As Linda Mwananchi, we will maintain peace as required by the law. But let nobody take advantage of our calmness to provoke us,” Obiero said.
Linda Mwananchi leaders led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino are expected to grace the rally.
