Makueni Media FC ran riot Thursday, thrashing their Machakos counterparts 6-1 in a thrilling match played at Police Grounds Wote.
Makueni dominated the entire match, managing 60 per cent ball possession, and with just 12 minutes played, team captain Shadrack Mutinda scored a stunning first goal with a bicycle kick following a well-taken free kick.
Kennedy Mulinge made a brilliant run to add the second goal in the 22nd minute before Festus Muli restored hope for Machakos FC at the end of the first half to make it 2-1.
In the second half, Makueni thirsted for more goals, and just after 2 minutes, striker Stanley Kiwia restored a two-goal gap with a long-range shot outside the penalty box.
Simon Nthusi and Jacob Kyallo bagged a goal each to affirm victory for the hosts before Mutinda successfully completed a double and the sixth from the spot in the 83rd minute.
“I am happy with the team; we have played well, created a lot of chances, and I was expecting more goals. Of course I noted there is an improvement from the previous friendly games,” said Makueni Media FC Captain Mutinda at a post-match interview.
“The initiative is to bring unity among the scribes in the region while advocating for the freedom of Journalists,” added Mutinda.
“It was a great exposure; this is our first game to play, and we have practised for the last two weeks only,” said Machakos Media FC Captain Festus Muli.
The practitioners used the opportunity to sensitise the public, especially the youth, to embrace sports.
