A 34-year-old man has been fined Sh100,000 by a Kenol law or in default spend one year in prison after he was found guilty of trafficking narcotics.
Joseph Muli appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Sheila Nyaga on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, where he faced charges of trafficking bhang.
According to court records, the accused was arrested on August 3, 2025, at about 2 a.m. in Naitera village Ithanga Kakuzi, Murang’a South sub county by officers from Ithanga Police station.
The court heard that PC Omondi and PC Macharia were on patrol in Naiteera when they spotted Muli carrying a green carrier bag. The officers, who recognized him, stopped and searched the bag.
Inside, they recovered 15 rolls of bhang, a rizla paper, a rolling flag, a pair of scissors, and Sh80, which police suspected to be proceeds from the sale of the drugs.
The accused was arrested and taken to Ithanga police station.
Muli pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted on his own plea of guilt.
In mitigation, the accused pleaded for leniency, telling the court that he has a family depending on him as the sole breadwinner.
However, Magistrate Nyaga ruled that trafficking was a serious offense and sentenced him to pay a fine of Sh100,000 or serve one year in prison in default.
The court further granted him the right to appeal the ruling within 14 days.
