Masalani bridge on the verge of collapse

The Sh 1.1 billion Masalani Bridge in Ijara Sub County is on the verge of collapse, after River Tana floods burst its banks eroding the soil on the Boji side of the river.
The incoming public works officer for Ijara sub county Eng. Mohammed Nuriye said the bridge, opened in 2005 by former President Mwai Kibaki, is intact but the soil on the Boji side in Tana River County had been eroded thereby requiring urgent repairs by the County governments of Garissa and Tana River.
The situation has been occasioned by recent floods as a result of Kengen releasing excess waters upstream from the Masinga and Kindaruma hydroelectric dams.
Eng. Nuriye said the bridge is a link to other part of the country connecting Ijara and Hulugho Sub County to Nairobi, Mombasa, Garissa and Hola.
