Medical laboratory officers in Machakos strike citing unresolved issues

By A, KNA

Machakos Medical Laboratory officers have downed their tools after failing to come to an agreement with the County officials on their long-standing grievances on delayed promotions and salary increments.

Negotiations between Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers (KNUMLO) and County officials at the Machakos level 5 hospital, have failed resulting to the strike.

The KNUMLO National Chair Nicholas Odipo while speaking at Machakos level 5 hospital said that their grievances ranged from lack of promotions for officers who have stagnated in the same position for over nine years, salary increments and placement of officers in incorrect job groups, which is contrary to established scheme of service.

“It’s alarming that in Kenya workers are forced to strike for their grievances to be heard, we demand 100 percent compliance on our grievances and our members should stay away from work until justice is served,” declared the KNUMLO Chair.

On his part, the union National Secretary Pius Nyakundi added that all the 150 members in the county have withdrawn their services, thus affecting critical health services.

“The County should abide by the Human Resource advisory manual provided by law and stop subjecting our members to unfair treatment,” added Nyakundi.’’
