Leaders from the Mt Kenya East region have urged residents to continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying sustained engagement with the national government will enable the region to benefit from ongoing and future development programmes.
The leaders said cooperation with the government would strengthen efforts to address key development challenges while accelerating the implementation of projects aimed at improving livelihoods.
Speaking during the commissioning of a modern dining hall and the launch of a school bus at Ontulili Day Mixed Senior School in Buuri Constituency, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku said the government remained committed to delivering development projects across all parts of the country.
Ruku said the Kenya Kwanza administration was implementing programmes designed to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of Kenyans, including the Affordable Housing Programme, expansion of road infrastructure, employment of teachers and various economic empowerment initiatives targeting different sectors of the population.
He said the government was committed to ensuring equitable distribution of development resources regardless of political affiliation, adding that every region deserved access to quality infrastructure and other public services.
The Cabinet Secretary urged Kenyans to embrace unity and shun divisive politics, saying national cohesion was essential for sustainable development and economic transformation.
He also defended Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, saying the Mt Kenya East region should support him and safeguard the leadership position he occupies for the benefit of both the region and the country.
“We must remain focused on development and avoid politics that divide our people. The government is working to ensure every region benefits from development programmes,” said Ruku.
Buuri Member of Parliament Mugambi Rindikiri said his constituency, one of the largest and most cosmopolitan in the region, required continued government support to address infrastructure and service delivery needs.
He noted that residents from different parts of the country had lived together peacefully for many years, urging leaders and citizens alike to continue promoting national unity instead of ethnic and divisive politics.
Rindikiri said the constituency would continue supporting the government to ensure residents benefit from ongoing development initiatives, including major road infrastructure projects such as the Katheri–Msalaba kwa Marete road.
“We are not tribalists and we are not ready to entertain tribalism. We must appreciate government efforts in development because they improve the lives of our people,” he said.
Chuka/Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene said Mt Kenya East should remain within government ranks to strengthen its capacity to lobby for more national development projects.
He observed that the region continued to face challenges, including inadequate road networks, limited electricity connectivity and water shortages, which required close collaboration between local leaders and the national government.
Munene praised Deputy President Kindiki for ensuring the region remained represented in the country’s leadership and urged residents to rally behind him.
“We cannot afford to be in the opposition when we still have major development needs. Let us focus on development and leave divisive politics behind,” he said.
Taveta MP John Bwire said the Kenya Kwanza administration had made notable progress in promoting equitable distribution of development projects across the country.
He noted that the Coast region had benefited from investments in infrastructure, agriculture and other key sectors, demonstrating the government’s commitment to ensuring all regions receive their fair share of national development.
The leaders called on residents to remain united, support government programmes and work closely with elected leaders to promote peace, economic growth and inclusive development across the Mt Kenya East region.
